Shyli Cassar might only be 17 years old, but she’s never let that stop her. Last year, the Maltese rapper went absolutely viral when a quick webcam video she shot sharing Il-Patt, a heartfelt song she had written,
got over 320,000 views on Facebook. One year and a collaboration with Malta’s own superstar Ira Losco later, Shyli is back for more.

The new track, Drama, sees the young Maltese artist rapping about people who betray their best friends “and disrespect their own blood”. In her owns, “we never disrespect each other; it’s either ride or die, or never,” and she definitely doesn’t mince her words in the lyrics.

The track’s strongest suit is the same reason why Shyli found nationwide fame in just one year. Drama clearly comes from a very personal place, and Shyli is clearly rapping from experience. “Deep down, from the scars inside my heart,” she said announcing the track’s inspiration, showing people that, much like Il-Patt before, her songs have a deep and personal meaning behind the thumping beats and fierce attitude.

Drama has only been out for just over 24 hours, but it’s already been getting very positive feedback and rave reviews by friends, family and fans alike. Steadily approaching 5,000 views and with loads more anticipated as it’s shared like crazy on Facebook, it seems like Shyli’s onto another winner.

2017 has been another very eventful year for the young Maltese rapper. Her first release of the year came just three weeks after New Year’s Day, and her feature on Ira Losco’s latest single Oh My God last July definitely help propel Shyli into household name status. Losco had even invited the young rapper to perform on stage with her during the Beland Music Festival, a free event which attracts thousands of people. couple of months later, OMG is sitting on over 250,000 views on YouTube.
