Finally! After years of hype and anticipation, we’ve now been given more of Maltese feature film Limestone Cowboy than just the trailer that dropped over two years ago. And of all places, it’s come from popular Facebook forum The Salott.

Last night, the thousands-strong group’s admin Moira Palmier shared the opening minutes of the film, and boy are we happy to be able to finally check it out for ourselves.

The film follows the story of Karist – an ageing, delusional man intent on becoming Malta’s next Prime Minister as he battles his mania and inner demons

Inspired by real events, the film centres around Karist, the son of the Malta Labour Party’s first martyr, who wants to take his love of the party that defined his entire life to the next level. But chasing this wild dream has some intense negative effects on not only himself, but also his loved ones.

Now you might think four minutes are far too short to capture the deeper intricacies of a plot like that, but we’ve never been happier to say you’d actually be wrong.

In between Karist preparing to head out to register as a candidate for the Labour Party (or at least, try to do so for the umpteenth time) and the awkward smiles as he is sat down in front of officials of his childhood party to be told, yet again, that he won’t be accepted, you’ll instantly get in the mood for an emotional rollercoaster. And then, just like that, you’ll realise that four whole minutes have literally whizzed by in what feels like seconds.

Limestone Cowboy was shot entirely in Malta back in 2014, and was produced by local media giants Take2. Written by Carlos Debattista and Jon Mallia, it was directed by first-time female director Abigail Mallia.

It’s been a long time coming, but you’ll finally be able to watch Limestone Cowboy at the cinema in a couple of weeks’ time

Yep; the film will be premiering at Eden Cinemas on Saturday the 13th April, launching daily screenings for Easter weekend (April 20th).

In the meantime, check out the trailer to whet your appetite even more!
