WATCH: They’re Back! Brikkuni Return With Explosive Single And Energetic Music Video Ahead Of Anticipated New Album
Every single time Malta’s alternative heavyweights Brikkuni announce a gig or a new single, the scene stops to listen. Now, the band has released something more; a music video ahead of a performance this weekend and a new album dropping soon.
A?firli Missier G?ax Ser Ner?a is the first single from Brikkuni’s fourth album Il-?ajja, Il-Mewt, In-Nisa, and while the song itself is very upbeat and will lead to many a mid-gig dance, the inspiration behind the lyrics is as sombre as ever
“As the lyrics heavily indicate, the song revolves around my relationship with my father, who passed away last November,” band frontman Mario Vella told Lovin Malta. “It was a relationship filled with love, but also a whole lot of conflict and misunderstandings that are all too typical in father-son relationships.”
Shared in the music video’s YouTube link, the lyrics do indeed tell the story all too well, with phrases like “?enn g?alija o Missier, ilsieni jwe??a, biss kull ma ridt tg?anniqa” and “g?idli jekk mhux int, jekk mhux int jew Alla, min sejjer jifdini?” managing to paint a perfect picture which won’t just stick with audiences, but feature in many a singalong thanks to the song’s punchy nature.
It took a small army of highly talented individuals to bring the single and music video to life, and that’s without counting Brikkuni’s seven-member count. With eight dancers, choreographed by Steffi Schranz, taking centre stage alongside the band members, the music video was directed and edited by Ian Schranz and Nick Theuma, while Andrew and Naomi Gradel took care of camera and grip.
A somewhat return to classical form for Brikkuni compared to their latest releases on Rub Al Khali, this latest song marks the beginning of their fourth album, which will be releasing next year
“We will however be releasing more songs throughout this year,” Mario Vella assured fans who will no doubt be expecting more soon.
Playing this song and other new ones, Brikkuni will be hitting the stage at Earth Garden this Sunday
So if you like the sound of new Brikkuni, be sure to make your way to the Roots Stage just before 10:30pm. Till then, we’ll be playing A?firli Missier G?ax Ser Ner?a on repeat.
