‘Jg?iduli ?un?ana g?ax in?obb ng?addi sieg?a bu??’ is a sentence we didn’t know we needed in our lives, but are so glad we’ve come across. For the foreigners in the audience, that roughly translates to ‘they call me a bee because I like to spend my time buzzing’.

It makes sense in Maltese, promise.

A locally-produced performance for this year’s ?igu?ajg festival may have just created Malta’s newest online sensation.

The immersive performance, iLand by Studio18 included a screening of the song ‘Testijiet’ by the fictitious protagonist TBC, and we love it.

‘Testijiet’ is about the daily struggles of a Maltese teenager as he tries to balance his school life and social life, all while pleasing his parents; a struggle we can all relate to.

The video follows TBC as he walks through the streets of Valletta, as unsuspecting strangers watch him pass by. He also stops in front of a few recognisable land marks in Valletta, featuring two local delicacies – pastizzi and ?ob? bi?-?ejt – in the process.

It may be a satirical take on the sudden rise of rap music here in Malta, but you have to admit, the track is pretty damn good.

Topped off by the cringeworthy, old-school video edits, ‘Testijiet’ could very well be our current favourite thing.
