WATCH: This Is How Pretty Bay In Birżebbuġa Was Created Nearly 30 Years Ago

As pretty as Pretty Bay is, it also is artificial. And not in a Mean Girls’ meaning of the word, but the actual meaning of the word. Pretty Bay in Birżebbuġa was actually a small spit of sand that became more and more popular.
By the end of the 1980s, the bay began to be filled with sand recovered from the dredging works at the Freeport.
In a recently-unearthed video dated in late 1990, sand can be seen pumped into the bay, as the Pretty Bay that many grew to know and love slowly started taking shape.
In the video you can hear some of the concerns residents were raising, as well as take a trip back in time to a younger less developed Birżebbuġa.
