Earlier this month, Michael Schembri was thrust into the spotlight after a viral video spread across social media showing the eight-year-old solving a Rubik’s Cube in 30 seconds.

His amazing talents go beyond solving Rubik’s Cubes though, with Michael having amazing memory skills, able to read 23 different languages and recognise all flags and countries in the world.

In an exclusive documentary, Lovin Malta highlighted one of Malta’s latest geniuses, where his amazing skills are perfectly shown off. Whilst his original video would doubtlessly convince many that Michael is truly a genius, the documentary definitely sets the bar even higher.

“Michael, at about six months, was already stringing small sentences together,” Elisa, Michael’s mother, told Lovin Malta.

Though it was not clear how gifted Michael truly was at this tender age, by the time he was one and a half years old, Michael was already able to read and write. Defying all expectations, he also was able to learn how to spell all manner of words from spelling tutorials.

He was looking at words like doughnut and wrestling”, Michael’s father, Mark, said. “I paused the video and asked him to spell the words out – and he actually spelt them out at one and a half.”

Whilst admitting that they were at a loss with what to do with Michael’s talents, his parents constantly strived (and still strive) to find ways for him to remain stimulated and happy.

As he continues to grow and develop, there is no telling what heights he will reach. It has been only recently that Michael wished to be more public with his skills in the hopes of finding more like-minded individuals.
