Malta’s jam-packed Pride Week is officially kicking off on Saturday afternoon at St George’s Square, Valletta in bombastic fashion. A huge parade, free street party, and concert will light up the capital before a star-studded continuation at MedAsia Playa in Sliema @ 9pm.

Here are a just few things you can expect during Malta’s Pride Week:

1. A massive pride flag

Organisers have teased us with plans of unleashing a huge flag, “along with many other surprises”. We can only imagine what the other surprises are, but we do have a shot of Malta’s HUGE rainbow flag.

2. Ira Losco’s live performance

Malta’s sweetheart Ira Losco will be performing at the Pride Parade at Valletta. The Eurovision star has always been very vocal in her support of LGBT rights and a live performance by the diva herself is a perfect fit.

3. An open-air street party

There’s no better way to kick off Pride Week than a little dancin’ in the street. Sky’s the limit for this one (and it’s free!).

4. Some huge sponsors are taking part

Vodafone, HSBC, LeoVegas are just a few of the corporate sponsors backing this year’s pride celebrations – and they’re going all out! Isn’t it great to see companies taking Pride Week seriously?

5. Angie Laus will be hosting the Pride Concert

TV Personality Angie Laus has been an avid LGBTIQ advocate, and this year she’ll be taking the stage as the official host of Saturday’s concert!

6. Katherine Ellis‘ Afterparty performance

MedAsia’s afterparty will feature none other than UK star Katherine Ellis! With a nearly 30-year career of exquisite vocal achievements, including singing on the soundtrack of Sandra Bullock and George Clooney’s “Gravity” to Hans Zimmer’s tracks.

7. A loving and open community

Celebrating pride is celebrating love, and acceptance. With Malta being named ‘Most LGBTIQ Friendly Country in Europe’ by the ILGA Rainbow Index – there’s no better place to be.

This year’s festivities are going to be particularly wild with the newly enacted Marriage Equality Bill having passed, as well as Malta’s amazing accolade awarded by ILGA.

All income from the official pride party will be used to fund Pride 2108, and possibly fund LGBTIQ community Projects. So party on with pride, and help the cause!
