Why Winter Clothing In Malta Is The Absolute Best Of All The Seasons
As the days get hotter and hotter and the 21st of June seems like a stone’s throw away (news flash; it is), people have started pulling out all their t-shits and flip-flops so they can get that beautiful Mediterranean tan everyone desires while enjoying a cocktail on the Sliema waterfront.
However, if, like me, you have the skin tone of paper and burn faster than anyone Chucky throws shade at, you probably long for the times when clouds filled the skies and a nice cool breeze floats through the air. Winter is also the time when the temperature is just right for the ultimate clothing choices… and here’s exactly why summer fashion could never compare.
1. So many layers, so many possibilities
Winter fashion offers the most opportunities for a fashionable lewk since you can match you top with the perfect light jacket and jeans, while using either scarfs, hats and other accessories to perfectly complete your outfit. Or you can keep it simple with a cute oversized sweater if it’s not that cold.
And sure, the t-shirt and jeans pairing is fine in autumn and spring but it still doesn’t beat winter’s endless options. Oh, and summer’s tank top, bermudas and sun block look can get right out because if I wanted to look like a tourist 24/7 I’d travel somewhere!
2. Jacket time is the best time
We all know the feeling. It was a warm July evening and you were window shopping in Valletta when you see it. The perfect jacket that matches so well with your favourite sweater. Oh and look! It’s on sale because obviously no one is buying thick jackets when it’s sometimes too hot for simple t-shirts.
Well, winter is the perfect time to pull it out of the closet and show of your fashion sense. Not to mention it’s the only time you could wear it without getting heat stroke, so you better get your money’s worth while you can!
3. Yes, you look cute in that scarf
Whether it’s because it perfectly completes your outfit or because it covers half of your face, you should definitely keep it on!
4. Ample pocket space? Erm, yes please
Something other seasons lack is space to keep all your daily essentials. Thankfully, winter fixes that right up as jeans, jackets and hoodies all offer more than enough pockets to store your wallet, phone, keys, depression, anxiety and headphones. Neat!
5. Easy temperature control
This one is a luxury that way too many people take for granted, but in the colder months it’s very easy to find your perfect comfortable temperature by either putting on or taking off one of the layers mentioned before.
In summer, sure you could put on a light jacket if you’re cold, but when you feel hot (which is always) you can only strip so naked before a police officer decides they need to speak to you.
6. Steal your boyfriend’s sweaters for that extra warm feeling
This point goes out to everyone who enjoys “borrowing” their boyfriend’s sweaters that they will totally return in a couple of days. And again, while stealing clothes could be a whole year thing, there’s just something more satisfying about it when you pilfer a sweater.
BONUS: Blanket Weather
While I’m well aware that this isn’t an article of clothing, lying under a blanket with someone you love and an excessive amount of snacks is still, and always will be, the perfect way to enjoy a movie.
And since, again, other seasons are usually too hot for this, winter once again reigns supreme as the best season of all time… or of all year, technically.
