It might seem unbelievable to some, but X Factor Malta’s first season has come and gone.
One person who can barely believe it herself is none other than judge Alex Alden, who has taken to social media to express some serious sadness over the ending of the ground-breaking show.
“The First Season of X Factor Malta has come to its inevitable end,” Alden said in a Facebook post. “What a crazy couple of months it’s been with all its ups and downs. Good times, bad times, flying all over Europe in time for meetings and Skype sessions with the groups before I eventually settled in Malta for the last two months. I loved every second of it. Loved being part of this immense team – the biggest production team ever for the most watched show ever in Malta!”
“This program has given people the opportunity to give music a serious shot, for those who may have never even received tutoring before, or never had the guts to go on a stage before… people who decided to take a plunge – whether it was serious or just for a laugh. These people embodied the sentiment of ‘you know what, you only live once’! Take a risk! The advice I give to anyone who wants to audition for Season 2 is to choose a song you love, explore the story of it, make it personal. Learn about music. Singing is more than just ‘singing’ per se,” she continued.
Alex noted how things really started heating up after Bootcamp
“It was all fun and games until Bootcamp, that’s when we started to suss out who had the stamina and the willpower to make it through even more precisely.
It was up to us judges, Ira Losco, Howard Keith Debono, Ray Mercieca and myself to see who we deemed fit. Some rose to the challenges, others did not,” she said.
However, she praised the panel of judges for the balance they brought to the show.
“The balance on the panel was well-thought out, mixing criticism, encouraging self-reflection and self-doubt, while also providing a loving foundation of positive reinforcement too – the sort of balance I found in my Conservatory days too which helped me grow so much in my own music,” she said.
“We managed to reach a record-breaking audience of about 180,000 viewers to be exact. Who knows what other records Season 2 will break?” she asked. “Only one way to find out! Missing you all already.”
Alex Alden started off as one of the lesser-known names in the show, but quickly became a household name after gaining a reputation as a judge that wouldn’t shy away from being critical… or having an outburst or two.
