Valletta 2018 Chairman Pours Cold Water Over X Factor Malta Success

There’s an article going around that Simon Cowell might axe X Factor if this year’s series don’t go as well as planned, quoting him saying that he has been disappointed with the show’s winners in recent years.

Which could mean the end of X Factor Malta as we know it.

Breathe, this has been dismissed as fake news. We will be getting more Michaela Pace’s and trumpet girls in the near future.

But the Valletta 2018 Chairman didn’t get the memo. Jason Micallef, the former chairman of TVM competitor One TV, commented in a Facebook post that while the show has been going on for 15 years, it just arrived in Malta and it’s already going to have to end.

“As usual, in Malta things are the other way around,” he said. “We just started a production that already seems like it’s aged 15 years.”

Micallef has criticised X Factor in Malta in the past. Last June he posted his skepticism of the show in a Facebook post, calling the PBS contract which gave chief executive Anton Attard the license to run the show “shameful manoeuvres from a circle of people with common commercial interests. Disgrace.”

“Then next year the main X Factor show will change again and we’ve got something very, very exciting, that I can’t get into yet, but it’s a four-year plan.”

What Simon Cowell actually has planned is that there will be two series of X Factor and each will be hugely revamped (and this will totally not affect X Factor Malta). Cowell revealed there will be two versions of the ITV singing competition; one boasting a celebrity line-up while the other will see ex-contestants battle it out in an all-star edition.

Looks like Micallef was right in some ways – we’re still behind. But after going through just one series of Alex Alden and flared up X-Factor-related Facebook posts on a Monday morning, we’re fine with not getting a double dose of the X Factor shows.
