Stunning all four of X Factor Malta’s judges and getting a perfect ‘Yes’ record is easier said than done, but for one young footballer-turned-singer whose audition premiered last night, it looked simpler than stopping a ball from being scored on the wrong side of the pitch.

Equally restrained but confident that his vocal performance was going to be unique AF, Karl Schembri didn’t give away much about what he had in store for us before he got started. Following a smiling Howard Keith entertaining his eagerness and giving him a chance to kick off his audition with a little dose of mystery, the young contestant kicked off with an operatic rendition that started out well enough and turned into… something else.

Halfway through the song, Karl Schembri’s voice suddenly jumps up half a dozen pitches and goes into female opera singer territory, leaving the judges – and everyone at home – absolutely shooketh

But beyond the initial shock, the judges all seemed very happy to have discovered someone like Karl, and we can definitely agree

Still taken aback and quite frankly a little speechless, the judges say out loud what everyone back at home must’ve been thinking throughout all of that, going on to give Karl four yeses for his super unique performance. But not before they ask him what position he plays (Right Back, by the way).

Meanwhile, I’m just here waiting for the moment Karl here comes out with a belting cover of Vitas’ 7th Element. For my dreams to come true and for all the memes it would create, make this happen please.
