WATCH: Teenage Singer’s Acoustic Take On Israel’s Eurovision Winner Is One Of X Factor Malta’s Coolest Auditions
Covers of the hit Eurovision song ‘Toy’ by Israel’s Netta Barzilai are definitely not scarce, but the most recent episode of X Factor Malta just brought us a really freaking cool one.
Matthew Anthony’s acoustic take on Netta’s hit Toy impressed X Factor Malta judges and viewers, earning him a spot in the upcoming Bootcamp, where he will compete against other contestants for a spot in the six chair challenge.
Matthew Anthony’s unique image, cool demeanour, and ability to say ‘Ah ah, ah ah, ani lo buba’ in a way that didn’t sound too confusing made Matthew an instant hit during last night’s final round of audition compilations.
And the judges were definitely there for it, with his cool acoustic cover earning him Four Yeses across the board.
Many will recognise Matthew Anthony from this year’s Malta Song for Europe entry Call 2omorrow, a song that went on to finish seventh in the competition just behind Petra‘s Evolution.
Matthew Anthony has also released a number of singles, including the summer hit Somebody Like You alongside popular local DJ Toby earlier this year.
We’ll see more of Matthew in the bootcamp episodes, but until then, we can only imagine how he’s going to follow up this killer performance. Perhaps an acoustic version of this song.
