An absolutely beautiful Valletta balcony with a twist made a big hit a couple of years ago when photos of it were uploaded on Facebook. The balcony, while seemingly a traditional Maltese one like the thousands you can find all over the island, opened up to reveal a beautiful, unobstructed panorama of the Grand Harbour. Now, you too can own a similar beautiful balcony, aptly named Gallarija Miftuħa, yourself.
The project is all thanks to Chris Briffa Architects, an award-winning, Valletta-based studio which redesigned the traditional timber balcony into “a fully-openable aperture letting in light and views.”
Now, the studio’s officially-licensed manufactures, Vasallo Joiners, are selling the product, which is protected by law under Patent no. 4343. Prices for the balcony start from €7k. The Gallarija Miftuħa concept and design has won multiple awards over the years, including the 2013 Premju Ġieħ l-Artiġġjanat Malti and the 2014 Homeworks Award for Best Innovative Build.
