Local environmental NGO Rota, in collaboration with the Embassy for the Kingdom of the Netherlands, recently organised the 5th edition of the Orange Bike Ride, a remarkable event promoting the efficiency and eco-friendliness of bicycle commuting.

The event, which was held yesterday, saw an impressive turnout of over 170 enthusiastic cyclists taking to the streets to champion the cause of sustainable transportation.

Prior to embarking on the scenic ride, the honourable Ambassador Djoeke Adimi extended her warm encouragement to participants, urging them to make cycling a part of their daily commutes, with her sincere appreciation for the participants’ enthusiasm resonated with everyone in attendance.

Meanwhile, Mark Trapani, President of Rota, also addressed the gathering, motivating participants to engage with their local MPs and councillors to advocate for improved cycling infrastructure across the island. He emphasised the collective power of the community in effecting much-needed change.

Rota remains committed to promoting sustainable transportation and looks forward to even greater community engagement in the future.

“With initiatives like the Orange Bike Ride, we believe that together, we can pave the way for a greener, healthier, and more vibrant future,” it said.

Rota is a voluntary organisation which passionately advocates for the diverse community of cyclists in Malta. It champions the rights and interests of various segments of society, including parents, students, pensioners, athletes, workers, employers, commuters, and children.

Rota is steadfast in its commitment to holding the government accountable for fulfilling its responsibilities to all road users and actively offers innovative solutions to help steer their initiatives in the right direction.

Their ultimate goal is to ensure that everyone in Malta has the opportunity to embrace the bicycle as a practical and sustainable mode of transportation.

The success of the Orange Bike Ride would not have been possible without the generous support of our esteemed sponsors. Rota extends its heartfelt gratitude to Bavaria, Tapp Water, UN1T, Protein Malta, Fresh To Go Foods, Greens Supermarket, Pama, Consolidated Biscuits, Maypole and Friends of the Earth Malta for their invaluable contributions to this event.
