Maltese tourism is heading for what promises to be another historic year, with at least three million visitors expected here by the end of this year. The new record is the biggest leap forward so far for the island, surpassing the record set in 2019.

“These positive results place a greater responsibility on us to continue making the necessary changes and reforms. The priorities for the upcoming year will be primarily focused on attracting higher-quality tourists than ever before,” said Minister of Tourism Clayton Bartolo.

Bartolo shared these optimistic forecasts during a recent visit to The Marriott Hotel and Spa in St. Julian’s, with CEO Carlo Micallef and Chairman Gavin Gulia of the Malta Tourism Authority accompanying him. The real economic impact of tourism, highlighted by Bartolo, was to inject an incredible €2.8 billion into the Maltese economy alone.

Heading into next year, the goal will be to attract better quality tourists. Another is the implementation of an all-round skills reform, which targets improving standards in restaurants and various other establishments.

“We will introduce a comprehensive skills reform to enhance services in our restaurants and establishments. Moreover, we will intensify efforts in public cleanliness and maintenance,” he added.

In addition, there will be greater effort given to keeping the public clean and well-maintained.
