30-Minute Cab Drivers Strike In The Works For This Friday In Malta
Frustrated Y-plate owners and drivers in Malta are planning a 30-minute strike this Friday aimed at warning the operators of the workers’ “anger”.
“Do you agree that we should strike for half an hour just 30 minutes as a first step next Friday?” someone wrote in a Facebook group dedicated Y-plate owners and drivers.
“Just half an hour. Everyone closes the applications collectively from 1.30pm to 2pm and no one is online. No Uber, no eCabs, and no Bolt until 2pm to tell the operators that we are here – it will be a warning of our anger at the prices, and if the matter continues, we will develop the matter.”
Comments on the post were filled with agreement, some requesting a different time but all agreeing with the suggestion to strike.
From looking through the Facebook page, it seems that drivers are frustrated at the recent price changes of cabs, making them cheaper despite rampant inflation.
This is not the first time cab drivers have taken a public stand against changes to the usual regimen. Just last month, there was a protest in Pembroke against new Transport Malta regulations that began to crack down at the industry.
What do you think about these plans for the strike?
