European Parliament President Roberta Metsola has reiterated her call for justice for assassinated journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, on the 300 week anniversary.
Yesterday, Caruana Galizia was commemorated on the 300th-week anniversary since she was brutally assassinated outside her home in Bidnija.
“The European Parliament honours her memory as we reiterate our call for justice. We will be here for as long as it takes,” Metsola said this morning.
“Daphne Caruana Galizia was an extraordinary journalist, and a fierce fighter for democracy. Throughout her life, and in all the investigative stories that she worked on, she had one underlying principle: to do her duty,” Metsola said in a newly published video.
“Not what benefitted her, not what was convenient, not what people wanted to hear, but what was right, what was necessary.”
“That is the basic principle that drives people like Daphne, duty, the search for truth, so that what is wrong can be exposed, stopped, and fixed,” Metsola said.
This year will mark six years since the killing of the anti-corruption journalist, who was killed by a car bomb in 2017.
Since then, a vigil has been held in Valletta consistently every single month, with the last one held yesterday.
