Five foreign nationals, forming part of an organised crime group, were arrested in the past few hours during an operation related to drug importation and trafficking.

After several weeks of investigations and surveillance through ‘Intelligence-Led Policing’, the police identified the individuals allegedly involved.

The arrested individuals include a 36-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman from Serbia, a 34-year-old man from Croatia, a 54-year-old man from Macedonia, and a 37-year-old Italian.

With all the gathered information, last Sunday, the police surrounded a vehicle in Ħaż-Żabbar, where they found around seven kilograms of cocaine.

The investigation continued in a residence in Ħaż-Żabbar and two other residences in Wied il-Għajn.

During the searches, the police found more cocaine, around six kilograms of cannabis resin, firearms, ammunition, drug trafficking equipment, a money-counting machine, a substantial amount of cash, and a number of falsified documents, among other items.

All the individuals involved are being held at the Police lock-up in Floriana and are expected to appear in court today at around 11am before Magistrate Dr. Nadine Sant Lia.
