72-Year-Old Tarxien Man Dies After Falling From Għar Ħasan Cliffs While Fishing

A 72-year-old man from Tarxien lost his life after reportedly falling off the Għar Ħasan cliffs in Birżebbuġa while fishing.

Yesterday, at around 11pm, Police were informed that a senior had not returned home, having gone fishing on the cliffs earlier in the afternoon in the area of ​​Għar Ħasan.

At the indicated location, where the 72-year-old resident of Tarxien was fishing, district police found his vehicle, as well as some personal items and belongings related to fishing.

Searches in the area were immediately launched by police and members of the Civil Protection from the ground, while the Armed Forces of Malta assisted with searches at sea by a patrol boat and by helicopter.

Unfortunately, this morning at around 10am, a corpse was seen at a rock entrance by the Armed Forces divers. It was confirmed that it belonged to the 72-year-old man.

Later the body was brought to the Maritime Base at Straw Beach.

Investigations revealed that the senior may have accidentally fallen off the cliffs while fishing.

Sentry Magistrate Victor Axiak was informed of the case, ordered an inquiry and appointed several experts to assist.

Police investigations are ongoing.
