73 officers from the Armed Forces of Malta together with the Civil Protection Department (CPD) will be providing assistance in Libya following the devastation caused by Storm Daniel leaving 10,000 people missing.

The team consists of 12 officers from the Armed Forces of Malta, including a medical team, and 31 members from the CPD.

The Maltese contingent departed last night via the Maltese Armed Forces ferry, P61, which also included a crew of 30 soldiers.

This marks the third time that Malta has offered help when other countries were going through difficult moments.

Minister Byron Camilleri reiterated that this was possible due to the training that officers have received in recent years.

“Once again Malta will be in solidarity with another country, this time one of our neighbours with historical relations. We will remain committed to not only assist and save in our country, but also help others in their moment of need,” stated Minister Camilleri.
