The 79-year-old man from Dingli who stands accused of allegedly causing 45-year-old motorcyclist Marie Claire Lombardi’s death has been released on bail.

Pensioner Joseph Cortis is being accused of dropping what seems to have been olive oil on the road which subsequently caused her death and is facing charges of involuntary homicide.

This development comes five months after the fatal accident, which occurred on 22nd October, where Lombardi lost her life after skidding due to a slippery material left on the road.

The accused is being represented by lawyer Patrick Valentino, who argued that Cortis could have been simply given a citation.

The accident occurred at a roundabout linking Saqqaja Hill, the Central Link, and a nameless road heading northwards towards the Buqana area of Rabat.
