In a historic moment for Maltese culture, the largest-ever exhibition of Maltese nativity scenes has opened today at the heart of the European Parliament in Brussels.

Organised and hosted by Maltese MEP Alex Agius Saliba, the exhibition marks a special milestone in showcasing Malta’s cultural heritage on an international stage.

The exhibition, described by Agius Saliba as “a dream come true,” features over 25 intricately crafted nativity scenes, including two large-scale masterpieces representing Birgu and Marsa.

“This is more than just an exhibition; it is a celebration of our culture and a testament to the incredible talent of Maltese artisans,” Agius Saliba expressed.

“After months of hard work and preparation, it is truly a dream come true to see our nativity scenes being admired at the heart of Europe.”

The project was made possible through the collaboration of various local entities, including the Ministry for Culture and the Ministry for Gozo, with special thanks to Għaqda Presepisti Għajnsielem, Natività Fil-Birgu, and Ħidma tal-Presepji.

One of the standout pieces of the exhibition is a life-sized nativity scene representing Birgu, capturing the essence of Malta’s historical charm and artistic legacy. Another prominent display highlights the Marsa nativity scene, a modern interpretation showcasing the innovative spirit of Maltese creators.

“This exhibition is a testament to our commitment to sharing Maltese talent and culture with the world,” Agius Saliba emphasised.

“It is moments like these that remind us of the importance of preserving and celebrating our traditions while giving them a global platform.”

MEP David Casa also praised Alex Agius Saliba for his efforts in bringing the exhibition to the European Parliament, saying, “Alex and I don’t agree on many things. But I have to congratulate him on his initiative to showcase the impressive Natività Fil-Birgu exhibition.”
