Abela’s Policy Consultant Aleandar Balzan Resigns From Post
Aleander Balzan has resigned from his role as policy consultant to Prime Minister Robert Abela but denied any disagreements within the OPM’s secretariat, according to MaltaToday.
Balzan started out at One News as a journalist, later becoming head of news and progressing to head of communications of the Labour Party. He then became a policy consultant for Abela and played an active role in the PL’s last election campaign.
And while he denied having any disagreements within the OPM’s secretariat, his resignation closely follows that of deputy PL leaders Chris Fearne and Daniel Micallef.
PL activist Neville Gafa, a former person of trust of Joseph Muscat, had spearheaded calls for Balzan to resign, warning that he exerts excessive influence over Abela to the point where Balzan takes decisions on major issues such as Cabinet appointments and Parliament co-options.
Balzan said he shall now be returning to party activism, directing his efforts toward activism within the Labour party.
