Adrian Delia condemned the alleged theft, stressing that whoever is found guilty must face the full consequences of the law, regardless of their position or connections. He said the case raises troubling questions about the adequacy of oversight, scrutiny, and governance in public institutions, adding that such a large sum could not have been misappropriated over a long period without systemic failures. Delia criticised the Education Minister’s response, insisting that expressing disappointment is not enough and that concrete action must be taken to prevent similar abuses in the future.

Alex Borg echoed these sentiments, emphasising that abuse committed by public officials or politicians is particularly damaging as it erodes trust in both politics and governance. He said that those in positions of trust should be held to the highest standards, and anyone who exploits their role for personal gain has no place in public service. Borg stressed that politics should be about improving people’s lives, creating opportunities, supporting those in need, and safeguarding the country’s reputation.

Both politicians pledged to continue pressing for stronger accountability measures, tighter monitoring systems, and a political culture that leaves no room for corruption or misuse of public funds.
