Ali Abbas and Faizan Muhammad’s Families Found Out About Mosta Death From Social Media
The families of Ali Abbas and Faizan Muhammad, the two Pakistani men who lost their lives in Mosta, only found out about their death from social media.
Sources close to the victims reportedly said that they found out about their deaths through a video that was posted on TikTok, and were not contacted directly.
The sensitive video, which was uploaded by another Pakistani residing in Malta, was available online way before friends and relatives living in Malta could have the chance to inform the families back home about the death. It has now been taken down.
A repatriation process is now underway, with friends and families appealing for €20,000 to be raised so that the bodies can be flown back home, Punjab in Pakistan.
33-year-old Muhammad was certified dead at the site of the accident, while 41-year-old Abbas died shortly after being transported to Mater Dei Hospital.
The two were on their way to work on Saturday at around 6am, when a collision occurred with 41-year-old Karl Vella Petroni, who was reportedly driving in the wrong lane.
Yesterday in court, an inspector who was present at the site of the accident said that he could smell alcohol on Vella Petroni, who has also tested positive for drugs.
Vella Petroni was charged with involuntary murder in front of Magistrate Abigail Critien, pleading not guilty to the charges.
