All the puppies which were found dumped in a local landfill by Wasteserv have officially been rehomed – but their owner is yet to be fined for the atrocious crimes he committed.

Not only were the puppies found in this manner, but their mother, along with two other dogs, were also found chained up in a field.

Lovin Malta had reported about the stellar efforts of MSPCA, who managed to locate the owner and the chained mother of the puppies which were dumped in a landfill. Thankfully, all dogs involved in this ordeal are now in safe hands, and the mother and the two other dogs are now also safe.

However, months later, no action has been taken against the owner by the Veterinary Regulation Department (VRD).

“The MSPCA is glad to confirm that the mother of the landfill puppies has now been officially set free from her chains along with the other two dogs subjected to the same captivity,” a spokesperson for MSPCA told Lovin Malta.

“Getting their microchips transferred was a very long process and these dogs were left in limbo for way too long,” they said.

“Animal Welfare thankfully pushed their registrations through and these wonderful dogs have now finally been given a better chance to live out the rest of their years in loving homes.”

“We have still not been given any details from the VRD with regard to the fines incurred. The new revision of fines clearly indicates that penalties relating to offenses committed against the animal welfare act regulations is considerably high, which is a good step towards pushing for their rightful 5 animal welfare freedoms.”

“The ultimate goal here is to get to a point where we can expect legitimate animal cruelty cases to see the inside of a court/tribunal. Enforcement is key,” they stressed.

This is not the first time that the MSPCA is pushing the VRD to take action against atrocities committed, in hopes that animal rights will start being taken seriously on the Maltese islands.

Do you think the owner should be fined for such a crime?
