‘Another Loss, And It Could Have Been Avoided’: Trekker Speaks Out On Mirabelle Falzon’s Death
Trekker and digital creator Conrad Neil Gatt has warned that the tragic death of Mirabelle Falzon could have been avoided, had the relevant authorities taken responsibility for the site.
Gatt creates videos related to exploring and documenting hidden places in Malta, and just days ago he revealed that a particular building needed attention – the Riħama Battery in Marsaskala, from which rocks fell and crushed Mirabelle Falzon underneath yesterday afternoon.
The video was shared four days ago, through which Gatt showcased the state of the building, explaining that he visited and contacted the relevant authorities, including the local council and NGO Din l-Art Ħelwa, yet no one claimed responsibility for it.
He showed how rocks had already fallen from it, and that it urgently needs to be looked at before it could further be vandalised, or worse, pose a threat to someone.
This is the same spot 22-year-old Mirabelle Falzon was killed yesterday afternoon.
“Another loss, and it could have been avoided. We’re tired of warning the authorities,” stated Gatt on Tiktok.
Gatt also stated in an interview that a meeting with Heritage Minister Owen Bonnici was held, however, the situation was not followed up.
