Architect, Developers, And Contractors Behind Jean Paul Tragedy Charged With Involuntary Homicide
The architect, developers, and contractors involved in the failed Kordin Project have all been charged with involuntary homicide of 20-year-old Jean Paul Sofia.
All five pleaded not guilty yesterday evening in front of Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras. All five were also granted bail.
All five are also being accused of causing grievous bodily harm to five other workers who were on site that day of the fatal accident.
The developers involved are 37-year-old Kurt Buhagiar from Naxxar, and 38-year-old Matthew Schembri from Birkirkara.
The architect behind the project was 35-year-old Adriana Zammit from Żabbar, who was also working as an architect for Infrastructure Malta at the time.
The contractors charged are 39-year-old Milomir Jovicevic from Serbia and his wife and company co-director 38-year-old Dijana Jovicevic from Bosnia and Herzegovina, who is currently pregnant.
The case will now be dealing with the compilation of evidence.
Though the saga of Jean Paul Sofia is a socio-political flashpoint, it is also a deeply tragic, human story with personal implications in the lives of many of Malta’s residents.
This all comes after months of calls and appeals for a public inquiry to be opened into Sofia’s death, after no arrests were made since the day of the fatal tragedy back in December.
