Arnold Cassola Asks Robert Abela 13 Pertinent Questions Related To JeanPaul Sofia’s Death

Independent politician Arnold Cassola has posed thirteen pertinent questions for Prime Minister Robert Abela, related to JeanPaul Sofia’s tragic death and the lack of a public inquiry.
In a recent statement, Cassola presented a series of questions, mainly questioning why there’s so much resistance against opening an independent, public inquiry into his death. The questions echoed what ADPD Deputy Chairperson Sandra Gauci recently said on a program with Andrew Azzopardi on 103.
This comes after Abela repeatedly said that there is “surely no need for a public inquiry to look into these shortcomings, as the tools and legal dispositions to address what happened already exist”.
“Why all this silence, Robert Abela? Why is Robert Abela scared of having an independent public Inquiry? What is Robert Abela hiding?” Cassola questioned.
“Is it because the company was co-owned by a criminal who contracted Albanians to beat up his former father-in-law?”
“Is it because the company was co-owned by a driver at the Lands Authority, who has already been condemned to one year’s jail for other issues?”
“Is it because the other four workers who were injured, including Albanians, were illegally employed?” he claimed.
“Is it because the authorities want to hide the injuries that these four had? Why was there no health bulletin issued on these four? Why the omerta’ by the health authorities? What happened to the four injured? Have they disappeared into thin air?” he questioned.
“Is it true that some have sustained serious injuries, especially in the eyes because of the concrete they were covered in?”
“What action has the Occupational Health and Safety Authority taken?”
Sofia lost his life after a construction site collapsed in Kordin last December, with the 20-year-old being pulled out of the rubble several hours later.
Since Sofia’s death, which occurred more than three months ago, little to no action has been taken to truly ensure that such tragic deaths do not repeat themselves again.
Meanwhile, Sofia’s mother, Isabelle Bonnici, has been fighting tooth and nail to ensure that justice is delivered for her son, seeking help from a number of politicians who have committed themselves to help her.
While she recently told Lovin Malta that PL Ministers continue to ignore her, she thanked a number of others who have listened to her cries for help, notably PN MP Jerome Caruana Cilia, former minister Evarist Bartolo, former President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, independent politician Arnold Cassola, and Gżira mayor Conrad Borg Manche.
Do you think that a public inquiry needs to be opened into Sofia’s death?
