Arnold Cassola Asks Standards Commissioner To Investigate Kurt Farrugia And Paul Zahra
Independent candidate Arnold Cassola has requested standards commissioner Joseph Azzopardi to investigate Kurt Farrugia and Paul Zahra.
Cassola is claiming that these two individuals, as politically exposed persons due to their positions as CEO of Malta Enterprise and Chairman of the State Aid Monitoring Board respectively, have sabotaged the NAO inquiry.
Instead of assisting the inquiry into the misappropriation of over 400 million Euros, Cassola claims that these individuals obstructed the investigation against the interests of the Maltese people.
They completely ignored Auditor Charles Deguara’s requests for information, making his quest for the truth more difficult.
Cassola quoted page 27 of the report:
“p.27: 1.4.3: Of concern to the NAO was that Malta Enterprise failed to reply to any of the queries submitted. This office sought information relating to the lease agreement entered into by the government with the QMUL for the Barts Medical School and an account of the payments received by Malta Enterprise in this respect. Similarly, queries submitted to the SAMB remained unaddressed.”
Cassola calls this reticence with the truth “omerta”, the mafia code of silence, and claims that it is unacceptable in a state that embraces the democratic values of transparency and truth.
This comes in the wake of the Audit report about the Vitals-Stewards saga which reached the conclusion that then Minister of Tourism, Konrad Mizzi, misled Cabinet to accept an exploitative 100 million guarantee if they defaulted from the Stewart Healthcare contract.
