Beloved Photographer Zvezdan Reljić Passes Away At 62
Zvezdan Reljić, a prominent photographic artist and influential figure in Malta’s publishing scene, has passed away at the age of 62 after a short illness.
Reljić, a Serbian immigrant, moved to Malta in the early 1990s from the former Yugoslavia with his late wife, Jasmina, a skilled seamstress. Together, they built a life and raised a family, including their three children: Teodor, an author and former film critic, Jovan, and Tia, a former staff journalist.
Known for his profound love for photography, his passion for the arts was not just limited to his professional work but also extended to his personal endeavors. He founded the Kixott co-operative, a space in Mosta that he transformed into a vibrant hub for creative minds, and EDE Books, a publishing house celebrated for its dedication to the arts.
Reljić was revered for his workshops on black-and-white film photography and darkroom printing, where he shared his expertise and passion with other photographers.
One of Reljić’s most notable projects was the creation of a series of 15 chapbooks. These hand-bound collections, crafted personally by him, featured fresh contemporary writing and artwork by both established and upcoming authors and artists.
Tributes have poured in with Kixott posting “It is with great sorrow that we announce the untimely departure from this world of our founder and President, Zvezdan Reljić.
Words fall short in capturing the impact his spirit and skill have had on both his family and the wider creative community.
We will be commemorating Z’s life and art on Wednesday 27th – all day from 9:00am at Kixott.”
Rest in peace.
