Birżebbuġa Residents Find Faeces Outside Their Door After Sewage System Overflows
Residents of Birżebbuġa woke up to a particularly unpleasant surprise after the rain that hit Malta caused a manhole cover nearby to overflow.
It seems the local sewage system was not keeping up with all the water brought on by the rain, causing waste to rise up to street level and even to the pavement.
“These photos were taken in Triq iz-Zibra in Birżebbuġa. The manhole cover overflowed cause the system was not keeping up with the sewage,” a resident wrote on social media.
Lovin Malta contacted the Water Services Corporation on the matter, who had already been contacted by the residents about the ordeal.
“As soon as WSC was made aware of this situation, a team was deployed to clean the area. Investigations are currently underway. WSC is liaising with the relevant authorities,” a representative told Lovin Malta.
