Bis-Serjetà Mocks New San Ġwann Garden Extension With Auschwitz Comparison

The newly inaugurated extension of a San Ġwann received some criticism by satirical Facebook page Bis-Serjetà.
“What does this photo show?” the page wrote, captioning an image of the garden.
“A. A new ‘open space’ in San Ġwann
B. A recreational area in the Auschwitz-Birkenau complex”
“Send your answers on a postcard to Bis-Serjetà Headquarters, Triq F’Għoxx Il-Labour, Għarb, GRB 1021.”
This local council project was financed by LESA and it extended the Patri Spiteri Donat garden.
The San Ġwann local council received funds for this project from the Community Scheme which is financed through money that LESA acquires from fines issued, the government stated.
LESA has financed over 60 local council projects over the last three years through this scheme. However, this San Ġwann garden extension isn’t going down too well with the public, with some commenters also poking fun at its appearance.
Yet, commenter and member of the San Ġwann local council, Kurt Guillaumier informed that the space is located top of an underground flour mill and silos which limit the amount and depth of soil.
“It was rehabilitated and made accessible for all instead of the abandoned state it was previously.”
Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri inaugurated the garden extension earlier today saying that projects in the community vary from environmental and open space projects to improvements for community security and clean transport for residents.
