Bootcamp Of Hope For Ukrainian Children Held In Malta

The Local Councils’ Association organised a seven-day “Bootcamp of Hope”, a therapeutic, emotional, and educational experience, rooted in love, empathy, and solidarity.
“As President of the Local Councils’ Association, I am deeply humbled and proud of what we have achieved through this meaningful initiative. Welcoming these brave Ukrainian children to Malta was not only a gesture of solidarity but a testament to the power of local communities to bring light into the lives of those who have endured darkness.
Their smiles, resilience, and gratitude touched our hearts and reminded us why we serve. This is not the end — it is the beginning of a lasting friendship and deeper collaboration between our nations, rooted in compassion, peace, and shared humanity,” said Mario Fava.
The bootcamp was organised as a loving experience for 15 Ukrainian children which came from towns and villages that were heavily affected by the devastating conflict between Ukraine and Russia. The initiative was carries out in direct collaboration with the Ukrainian Association of Local Councils.

From the moment they arrived at the airport, the Local Councils Association team warmly welcomed the children. They were hosted in a hotel where rest, safety, and personal care were top priorities. For a full week, the sounds of sirens and bombs were replaced by adventures, games, and laughter.
Among several activities that were organised, the children visited the Museum of Natural History, a chocolate factory, Mdina Glass and Mediterranean Ceramics, and the National Aquarium. They also spent a whole day in Gozo, visiting its most beautiful landmarks like Ta’ Pinu Basilica, Ramla Bay, Sanap Cliffs and more.
On the final night, we experienced a deeply emotional moment during the farewell dinner. One of the children presented the President of the Association with a badge from his father’s uniform, who had died in the war — a deeply symbolic gesture that moved everyone to tears.
