A peaceful protest for JeanPaul Sofia has been announced for this coming Monday at 8pm in front of Castille in Valletta.

The protest was announced just last night, with thousands already registering their interest. People are being urged to bring a candle with them.

Speaking with Lovin Malta, Isabelle Bonnici, she said that “It’s a peaceful vigil, and people are invited to get a candle.”

She continued by thanking the public and the media for their constant support, expressing her appreciation.

“Have we not learned? Will we continue to risk the lives of our children? I in no way want anyone to pass from this pain, and I do not want my son to have died for nothing,” Għal Jean Paul said on Facebook while announcing the protest.

“Therefore, I will continue to insist on a public inquiry and assure you that I will keep working for a Malta that is more enjoyable and workplaces that are safer for Maltese people in the construction sector.”

Meanwhile, an ongoing petition calling for the public inquiry has garnered over 24,000 signatures in just five days, with the last 4,000 registered yesterday alone.

Yesterday, nationwide backlash ensued after all members of the Labour Party voted against a motion to open a public inquiry into Sofia’s tragic death.

His close family and friends have been stressing that it’s necessary to ensure that Malta does not keep losing citizens to shoddy construction.

Will you be attending the demonstration on Monday?
