British Veterans Help Restore Fort Delimara

10 British veterans supported by the UK charity Alabaré, along with four staff and volunteers, travelled to Malta as part of a joint initiative between the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) and Hertiage Malta between 3rd and 15th May.
“During their time in Malta, the veterans carried out preservation works at Fort Delimara, including cleaning, rust removal, and painting, aimed at safeguarding the historic fort’s structural integrity. The group also conducted internal and external restoration works at the AFM Delimara Outpost, under the supervision of the AFM Property Management and Development Branch,” wrote AFM on Facebook.
This initiative was part of Alabaré’s “Boots on the Ground” project which is an innovative programme that helps former service personnel through structured, purpose-driven volunteering experience.
The veterans were hosted by the AFM at the Maritime Squadron facilities in Haywharf. In addition to their restoration work, they also had the opportunity to explore Malta’s cultural and military heritage through guided visits to various Heritage Malta sites. This initiative reflects the AFM’s ongoing commitment to international cooperation, heritage preservation, and veteran welfare.
