Busy Road Transformed Into Pedestrian Area In Central Ħamrun
Residents of Ħamrun can now enjoy a new pedestrian street with a recreational space in the town centre, thanks to the initiative of the Ħamrun Local Council.
Ħamrun Mayor Christian Sammut explained that this project was one of a series of regeneration projects in various roads in Hamrun.
“The main objective behind these projects is to attract more families to our centres,” stated Sammut.
The space was officially inaugurated by Transport Minister Aaron Farrugia.
The project, which involved the closure of a secondary road next to Pjazza San Pawl, was financed by Transport Malta through the European Mobility Week scheme, with a total investment of approximately €60,000.
The project aims to provide a safe and inclusive space for the public, with new pavement and iron gates installed around the recreational area.
The playground is also equipped with inclusive equipment that can be used by people with special needs.
“It is satisfying to see projects of this nature come to life especially in highly urbanised areas such as Ħamrun,” stated Farrugia.
“This project is a clear demonstration of what Government means when it promises and carries out projects centred around the concept of infrastructure for the people. I look forward to seeing this project being enjoyed and more projects of this nature being carried out in more areas around the country.”
Parliamentary Secretary Zerafa Civelli commended the Ħamrun Local Council for its initiative and emphasised the importance of playing fields in localities as a resource for recreation, which contributes to better quality of life.
She also expressed the government’s commitment to continuing to issue schemes of this kind.
As more projects of this nature are carried out in different areas around the country, Maltese residents can look forward to an improved quality of life and more inclusive public spaces.
