On Sunday 29th September 29th, Robert Scerri and Andrew Pisani will embark on a daunting kayaking challenge, paddling from Pozzallo, Sicily to Exiles Bay, Sliema on their surf-skis.

This demanding journey, covering approximately 100 kilometres, is being organised to raise funds and awareness for five-year-old Kate Ferriggi, who has been diagnosed with Tatton Brown Rahman Syndrome or better known as TBRS.

TBRS is an extremely rare genetic condition, affecting only 1 in 7 million people. Kate is the only known case in Malta.

In addition to TBRS, Kate faces a global developmental delay and other health challenges. She undergoes daily intensive therapies aimed at improving her mobility and cognitive abilities, many of which take place at specialised clinics abroad.

The cost of these treatments runs into thousands of euros, and the ‘Kayak4Kate’ event aims to alleviate some of this financial burden while raising awareness about Kate’s condition.

The challenge will push both Robert and Andrew to their physical and mental limits, as they navigate this long stretch of sea, at times paddling in complete darkness.

Robert a fully qualified personal trainer along with Andrew who works with Caritas as the Head of the Dar Charles Miceli unit, have taken to this challenge in order to make a difference in this young girl’s life.

When asked about their motivation, Robert and Andrew acknowledged that the journey will be extremely tough, with moments where the mission might seem almost impossible.

However, the thought of helping Kate in her daily struggles provides them with the strength and determination to press on.

Those who wish to support Robert and Andrew in this endeavour can follow their journey on their Facebook page, ‘Kayak4Kate’.

Donations can be made via bank transfer to ‘Voice For Kate TBRS Malta – MT20VALL22013000000050021409151’, using Kayak4Kate as the reference.
