Children’s Rights Ministry Silent On Child Marriages Happening In Malta
The Ministry for the Family, Children’s Rights and Social Solidarity has remained silent on claims related to child marriages happening in Malta.
Lovin Malta’s questions on the matter have been resoundingly ignored by the Social Solidarity and Children’s Rights Ministry, despite reminders.
Maltese-Palestinian author Walid Nabhan first claimed that child marriages and teenage births are happening in Malta – some on his very street in Ħamrun.
Then others began opening up, with one local resident sharing how they were once invited to a child marriage in Malta.
“Once I was invited to a wedding, I didn’t even know she was underage… and when I found out I left immediately. And this isn’t my experience only,” they confessed.
Some have claimed that the authorities are well aware of the situation, but not enough is being done to curb the issue.
What do you make of the Ministry’s silence on the matter?
