Corpus Et Partes: New Kamra Ta’ Fuq Exhibition Explores The Fragmentation Of The Human Body

In his newly-launched solo exhibition titled “Corpus et Partes,” local painter Henry Falzon has embarked on a fresh theme and medium in his artistic journey – the fragmentation of the human body.

Widely recognised for his pastel works, primarily featuring landscapes, Falzon now guides the audience on a new trajectory—an exploration of the human body, or more precisely, various body parts.

“Life often has its peculiar ways of determining our next steps, and due to an unfortunate episode, the artist found himself spending several months in hospital wards, surrounded by the fragility of ‘body parts’ in their most vulnerable states,” curator Melanie Erixon wrote.

“This experience left him with no opportunity to seek out inspiring landscapes, but it opened the door to a new source of inspiration—the human body.”

“This marked the artist’s progression within his artistic repertoire, where he presents a study of different body parts, each unique in its depiction, ranging from the serene to the whimsical. The medium used for the majority of the works is oil.”

Additionally, the artist is presenting a series of limited edition hand-inked mezzotint prints. Some of the works take on a playful dimension through the inclusion of props, adding depth and complexity to the pieces.

The artist views this body of work as a stepping stone toward his ultimate goal of integrating the human figure into his hallmark landscape compositions.

The exhibition opened on 7th December and will be open until 3rd January at Mqabba’s Kamra Ta’ Fuq.
