Day Of Mourning Declared In Memory Of Pope Francis

Today has been declared a day of mourning in honour of His Holiness Pope Francis.
In a statement published by the government, the day of Pope Francis’ funeral was also declared a national day of mourning.
On both of these days, flags on all public buildings and offices are to be flown at half-mast on both dates.
“Pope Francis was the leader of the Catholic Church and a symbol of social justice and peace for people around the world. The Government encourages the Maltese and Gozitan people to join in this final show of respect by observing these days of mourning,” the statement reads.
Pope Francis died yesterday from a cerebral stroke that led to a coma and irreversible heart failure. His death triggered an outpour of love and tributes from across the world, with different communities praising the legacy he left behind.
Pope Francis was known to the world as the People’s Pope. His consistent choice to go against tradition and live humbly is one appreciated by the masses. Meanwhile, his receptiveness to change and willingness to listen to groups historically ousted by the Church made him one of the most progressive Popes in modern history.
Rest in peace.
