‘Dear Ovarian Cysters’: Maltese Influencer Opens Up About Recent Delicate Cyst Removal Surgery

Maltese fashion influencer Abigail Vick has opened up about a cyst removal intervention which she is currently recovering from, just days after the surgery.

Addressing her over 30,000 followers on Instagram, Abigail delved into the ins and outs of her recent experience, from the moment she got her first diagnosis to how she felt after waking up from the operation.

At first, she was suspecting digestive-related issues, and Abigail explained how she was ready to start cutting out dairy and gluten to get to the source of the issue.

After feeling her stomach, a variety of doctors also suggested that it might just be gas and it’s not anything serious, while others said that it might be IBS – but it was much deeper than that.

“I decided to schedule an appointment with my gynecologist, to make sure that there’s nothing wrong related to the gynae, before I begin experimenting with food,” Abigail said on Monday.

And so she went for her first ultrasound, thinking that it was just a routine test and that everything would be okay.

“This was the first shock. The radiologist who was conducting the ultrasound told me, ‘Thank God you came because what you have is not related to food. You have a cyst that is so big that I can’t even see the edge of it on the screen.'” she recounted.

“The first thing I told her was, ‘What do you mean?’ as I was not expecting this in the slightest.”

“From that moment onwards, until a few days ago, I wasn’t myself, I didn’t know what was happening,” she said, breaking down into tears.

“I promised myself that I wouldn’t cry, but I’m crying tears of joy right now because I’m so happy that it’s all passed.”

From then onwards, Abigail was sent to the emergency room, and tests concluded that she would need an operation to have the cyst removed due to its size.

“It had to be removed because you can’t just leave a cyst of that size there – it could rupture, it could cause severe pain, or even internal bleeding,” she explained.

“Apart from the pressure I was feeling oonnto my abdomen, I was completely fine. But mentally, knowing that I had something inside me that needed to be removed, and I had to keep going to work, and living my normal life, it wasn’t easy at all – even though I managed and I’m very proud of myself for going through this.”

“Without having much control, you’re going to keep on thinking about it, you can’t just forget it,” she said.

Abigail also recounted the multitude of fears that she experienced, as well as knowing that she could even lose one of her ovaries during the intervention.

But the big day came and went, and when she woke up from her surgery, she was thrilled to know that everything had gone perfectly – and her ovary was saved.

“When I woke up from the operation, I don’t even know what I was saying. I remember asking about the operation, to see if everything went well, and they said yes – and I immediately started smiling.

“For me, the fact that I woke up, and everything had gone well, was enough. From that moment onwards, I started feeling like myself again.”

She took a moment to thank all of the people that were there for her throughout the experience, including her family, closest friends, and partner, as well as the doctors and nurses that took care of her at Mater Dei Hospital.

Abigail now wants to raise awareness about her experience, in hopes that her story will help others going through similar difficult moments.
