Dogs Involved In Msida Breeder Attack Taken In By Animal Welfare Officers

Animal Welfare officers have taken in the dogs involved in last Monday’s attack, along with others that were found in the Msida residence.

A total of eight dogs were collected from the house where a breeder was chased out of in the middle of the night after two of his pit bulls attacked him.

Many witnesses have since claimed that the dogs were not being treated properly, often being left unfed or locked out on the roof of the house. Some have even speculated they had been used for dogfighting before.

Andre Galea had to seek refuge on top of his own car after he was mauled by his dogs, leaving him in a pool of blood until emergency services arrived on site.

It is still unclear what will now become of the dogs, and questions sent to the Animal Welfare Directorate have remained unanswered.

Galea is also under ongoing investigation and is facing charges of involuntary homicide after his own grandmother was killed by his dogs three years ago.

Neighbours living close to the area have since confirmed that Galea was allowed to keep dogs following the fatal accident.

Reacting to the ordeal, animal activists hailing from a number of local animal organisations have practically blamed Malta’s lack of effective administration for causing even more animals to suffer.

“We cannot understand what it will take for Anton Refalo and the government to wake up from his slumber and start taking action.”
