Two individuals were fined €1,000 each after throwing a full nappy into a protected Tamarisk tree and failing to show up to court.

They were charged with severe littering in a court sitting in which they were absent, despite being successfully summoned, the Malta Ranger Unit said on social media.

Usually, the fine for such a crime would be between €150-€300, however, since they did not show up to court, the amount drastically increased.

The Magistrate further issued an arrest warrant for the next sitting.
