Emergency Doctor Warns Of Drunk Driving After Near-Tragic Incident
Blue Light member Michael Spiteri posted to his Facebook issued a warning about the dangers posed by reckless drivers after a near-tragic incident earlier today.
“Our first callout this morning could have ended in tragedy,” Spiteri said. “At that time of day, the risk was enormous buses full of people heading to work, joggers along the seafront, and traffic all around.”
According to reports, the driver involved was allegedly four times over the legal alcohol limit. If confirmed, this would be at least the third serious incident in recent days linked to drunk driving.
Spiteri emphasised the severity of the issue, stating:
“This is unacceptable, Irresponsible drivers are putting innocent lives at risk. Some clearly refuse to learn, so the only way forward is random and frequent checks, harsh penalties, and highly visible enforcement to deter this reckless behaviour.”
He urged authorities to take stronger measures to prevent avoidable injuries and fatalities on Malta’s roads.
