Amid a week of prolonged power cuts, Enemalta released a statement assuring the country that all investments have been in line with regulations while condemning “propaganda spread by certain individuals”.

“This just adds to the pressure and difficult conditions that our workers were already facing,” the energy distribution company wrote on social media while thanking all workers and technicians who worked “tirelessly around the clock”.

“Enemalta remains grateful towards our hundreds of workers for their continuous input to enable us to strengthen and improve our infrastructure and service.”

“We have already laid 82km of new underground high voltage cables, commissioned 32 new substations, carried out transformer upgrades and switchgear replacements among many other works to strengthen our distribution network. We will continue investing to ensure a strong service to all our consumers.”

This comes amid nation-wide power cuts that left people without electricity for days.

Prime Minister Robert Abela also commented on the situation earlier today, saying that the country has enough generation to meet the demand but admitted that it has a distribution problem. From last summer until now, there was not enough time to fully fix this problem, Abela said, however, efforts began a while ago and will intensify in the coming months.

PN Leader Bernard Grech also shared his thoughts on what’s going on, he stated that Energy Minister Miriam Dalli and the government should shoulder political responsibility while criticised the two for not adequately reassuring the country during these difficult moments.

He stated the two leading politicians were nowhere to be seen as the cuts spread throughout the country.
