‘The Enemies Within’: Evarist Bartolo Highlights Labour Party’s ‘Serious Issues’, Endorsing Independent Borg Manché

Evarist Bartolo took to social media to openly share his thoughts and concerns on the Labour Party, urging the public to vote for newly independent candidate Conrad Borg Manché.

“The Labour Party is being pulled into different directions by different personal interests – just like a boat caught in a storm with different winds and currents. There is no solid leadership in order to get it back on track for its own good and for that of our country.”

Bartolo claimed that while the party will have no issue gaining votes in the upcoming European Parliament elections, and no issue surpassing the Nationalist Party, it will have serious long-term issues due to its neglect of certain parts of society. It is, he stated, the natural home to those with the lowest income and with a primary or secondary level of education, at most. As a result, the party is losing the support of those who have a higher level of education, according to Bartolo.

“The enemies within,” is the issue at hand, the politician said, calling for proper leadership.

Bartolo stated that when the party had no enemies within, it persevered and won over the outward enemies. It did, however, lose the elections when these enemies took advantage of the party for their personal reasons.

“In order to stop this loss of support, the Labour Party needs to address these serious issues created from the enemies within: not only with regards to political leadership and corruption. While the large economic growth brought about work and benefited people, it also brought about a country whose systems, such as the drainage one for example, are not keeping up with the increase in the population and the tourism sector.”

A day later, just this morning, Bartolo urged the importance of “voting for the candidates we would like”. Current Gżira Mayor, Conrad Borg Manché, seeks the good of the people, he stated, encouraging the public to vote for him.

Borg Manché resigned from the Labour Party last October, following clashes on plans to build a petrol station within a public garden. He stated the party had left him no other choice but to resign, and continued as Mayor of the locality. He is now contesting for the European Parliament elections as an independent candidate.

“The nine years Conrad Borg Manché has been serving the public are testimony of his good intentions, his honesty, and his hard work and determination, especially in the face of people who are willing to use their money to get exactly what they want,” claimed Bartolo.

“For those who have lost hope in politicians, instead of remaining home and opting not to vote, you’ve got Conrad.”
