Prominent lawyer and former PN MP Jason Azzopardi has reacted to the Easter poster which was erected by alleged kidnapper and fraudster Christian Borg on the facade of his company’s showroom in Qormi.

This comes after No Deposit Cars, a company facing a legal battle initiated by 26 customers who are alleging fraud and are being represented by Azzopardi, affixed a poster of the lawyer depicted as a priest.

“It so happens that today is Good Friday, the day when believers commemorate a basic truth: evil will be its own downfall,” Azzopardi told Lovin Malta.

Asked whether he will be filing a police report following the poster, Azzopardi replied, “Have we reached the stage in this country where the police in Malta need a report to compel them to carry out their duty?”

“So if someone takes out a full-page advert in next Sunday’s papers, publicly saying that he will be carrying out a bank robbery the following week, will the police not act until and unless someone files a report requesting them to take action to prevent the commission of that crime?” he questioned.

He also continued to say that he was “certainly not” intimated by the poster.

In the poster, Azzopardi can be seen dressed as a priest, giving a speech in what appears to be a church, with the words ‘Happy Easter 2023 to all’ written on the side. Uploaded on the company’s Facebook page, the image was captioned “Happy Easter to our favourite peeps”.

The used car company is facing legal battles with various customers accusing it of fraud, with the case being led by Azzopardi.

The prominent lawyer is set to be representing 26 people, who were all greatly dissatisfied with the car company’s service, alleging that the company is evading tax and defrauding customers.

A few months back, the customers had also requested that Borg and his company be investigated by the police for having “promoted, constituted, organised or financed an organisation with a view to committing criminal offenses which are punishable by imprisonment for four years or more”.

Borg has often boasted of having a close relationship with Prime Minister Robert Abela, even having the PM’s face printed on one of his expensive cars.

Do you think the police should investigate the company?
