Fake Malta Public Transport Page Scams People By Offering ‘Free’ Tallinja Cards

A fake Facebook page is scamming users by pretending to sell “free” Tallinja cards and instead stealing money from people’s bank accounts.

“They took the money and didn’t send me anything, and after I found out they were scammers, I emptied my bank card,” a victim of this scheme told Lovin Malta.

“They tried to rob me several times, but they didn’t find anything.”

The page is offering free use of a Tallinja Card for one year: “Get a new card for only €2.35 and say goodbye to your fare. The action is valid until 31 April 2024,” a post on the platform reads.

Many comments below the post seem to be feeding into the scam, telling potential victims that the card is “exceptional and fantastic”, while others have caught on to what’s really going on.

Meanwhile, the actual Malta Public Transport has confirmed that this is a scam and told Lovin Malta that it reported the issue to Facebook.
