Firefighters Control Kalkara Yacht Fire

Firefighters swiftly extinguished a yacht blaze in Kalkara on Tuesday afternoon, preventing further damage and potential injuries.
The incident occurred at approximately 7.30pm at the Kalkara Marina, where a boat moored in the area caught fire, sending a thick plume of black smoke into the air.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing an explosion before the vessel was engulfed in flames. The Civil Protection Department responded promptly, deploying fire engines to the scene. The burning boat was towed out of Kalkara Creek to minimise the risk to other vessels and was later moored below Villa Bighi.
A spokesperson for the police confirmed the fire but did not provide additional details. It remains unclear whether anyone was injured or what caused the fire. The Civil Protection Department continues to investigate the incident.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety measures in marina environments. Authorities urge boat owners to ensure their vessels are equipped with functional fire extinguishers and to conduct regular safety checks to prevent such occurrences.
Well done to the Civil Protection Department!
